Honouring Wesley Place’s Rich History, Architectural Legacy And Cultural Significance

A Vemi and Charter Hall collaboration on the transformation of three distinctive Speculative Suites at 150 Lonsdale Street, in Melbourne’s CBD. The design pays homage to the rich history of the Wesley Place, and architectural legacy and cultural significance of the area. The design thoughtfully merges these elements with modern, innovative workplace environments, creating a space that is both functional and visually striking. Each suite within the development tells its own story, inspired by the surrounding urban landscape, historic gardens, and the broader cultural context of the area.

The design incorporates Indigenous cultural elements and celebrates local craftsmanship, with the careful selection of materials that reflect the region’s archaeological past. A neutral colour palette, complemented by textured finishes, further deepens the connection to the site’s heritage, creating an atmosphere that resonates with both the past and the present.

The use of locally sourced materials, combined with sustainable practices throughout the fit-outs. Notably, partnerships with Indigenous-owned businesses, such as Winya, who provided workstations and booth seating, enhance the project’s impact by supporting local industry.

The integration of Australian-designed and locally made furniture, along with sustainable materials, aligns with Charter Hall’s values and leasing goals. This approach not only enhances the workspace’s connection to its cultural and historical surroundings but also strengthens local industries.
