A Mid-Century Aesthetic for a Renowned Melbourne Law Firm

Beginning the practice in 1925, Nodco has been providing law-related services for over 95 years. Previously utilizing an office-based work strategy, Nodco desired a transition into an open plan environment that was sympathetic to their change. The “snowflake” workstation provides a sense of privacy and generous desk space – assisting employees with the transition into an open plan working environment.

Inspired by Nodco’s association with significant historical legal cases, the design concept channels a mid-century modern feeling. The law firm has evoked meaningful change throughout Victorian society. The design connects to this positive impact – celebrating it. Light timbers and gentle curves provide a soft overlay; juxtaposed by geometric finishes and pops of colour. Front of house has been built not only for employee benefit, but also for entertaining – consisting of an open kitchen, various meeting rooms, butlers pantry and banquette seating.

"We engaged VEMI to design and project manage our fitout at 140 William Street, Melbourne. We were looking to develop our new premises with a new way of working. They guided us to select a workable design that provided functional and collaborative workspaces that moved away from traditional lawyer offices. VEMI provided support throughout the whole project. Their project management was exceptional, and their team went over and above the brief to ensure that our project ran smoothly and met the deadlines and budget.”
